Our Mini Lesson Plan

In our mini lesson we used the app GoNoodle to help us teach about cycles and the changing of seasons, from the grade 1 curriculum.

Check out Brynne and I's Mini Lesson Plan template.

Through our mini lesson we explored topics of changing seasons and cycles, while incorporating indigenous ways of knowing (medicine wheel). Along with watching a video on the transition from fall to winter, we worked as a group to describe each season using our five senses.

In a "real" classroom I would ensure to develop a lesson that follows the classroom support plan, and further plan my lesson towards the needs of the students within our classroom. I think that GoNoodle is a great resource and in the future I would love to explore the more interactive resources! Being that we were teaching a grade 1 class, we did not want to use a resource where students would require a device, but rather just engaging in a shared screen. I think it is important to remember that technology should complement, not replace, other forms of learning and play. The goal is to use technology as a tool to support early childhood development, promote learning, and enhance critical thinking skills while maintaining a balanced and healthy approach to screen time.

Some of the feedback on our lesson: Get students outside to explore these changes first hand. Starting our lesson with the video, rather than ending with it. Having a deeper discussion on the video. Develop more inquiry questions.

  1. It was a pleasure to work alongside you in our mini technology lesson! I love how fun and easy it is to include technology into a lesson! This is a well thought blog that incorporates both the balance of including technology to promote early childhood learning and development but to also balance outdoor time as well! Great post! Superb read!!
